One of my favourite words in the English language is draw.

To draw tea is to steep it.
To draw the curtains is to close them.
To draw lots is to select an item at random.
To draw a race is to finish at the same time.
To draw close is to get nearer.
To draw money is to take it from the bank.
To draw water is to take it from a well.
To draw out is to extend.
To draw a picture is, well, to draw!

What kind of mongoloid language has that many meanings for one tiny little word?

Too funny language. Think about all the words that sound alike, or like the word draw are used for different meanings. Someone must have been terribly bored.. ya think?

IN the words of DR NIck, while standing in a pile of flaming rubble.

Inflamable means flamable..... What a country.

Greetings fellow earthling.

I know how much you tolerate cricket, but I could not help it...

To draw a game of test cricket is to not complete it.
To tie a game of test cricket is to finish on equal runs.
To draw a game of one-day cricket is to finish on equal runs.

Regarding your jewerly tallent, you have heaps, the people who didn't bid on it knows nothing.

PS: Are you looking forward to Spam-a-lot?

Cheers,
The masked avenger (Andrew).

Inside/Outside - thanks for dropping by :) Which of your numerous blogs should I frequent?

Whitesnake - ha ha, very good! I didn't think of that one :)

Crazybugga - it's all Greek to me!

Andrew - thanks for the confidence boost re jewellery :) I'm not sure if we're going to Spam-a-lot, it's going to depend on money and which city we're in at the time.

Cazzie - yup, draw a bath is also correct. Too many meanings! By the way, re "You don't know nothing", did you know that a double negative ALWAYS makes a positive, but a double positive NEVER makes a negative?! (Except for sarcasm, eg, "Yeah, right" = 2 positive words which actually mean "BULLSHIT")

It's very enjoyable to read this post and the comments. It sure does beat me how anyone who wasn't raised with the english language would ever fully grasp it.

I've tutored students in reading and it can get unbelievably confusing trying to teach them the "rules" of phonics only to have to tell them there are exceptions to most every rule! BUT I love the English language! And I loved this post, Stace! Hey, I've tagged you for a meme at my blog, if you care to have a look!!
