I want to go home.
I don't mean leaving work and going back to the apartment Aidan and I currently occupy.
I mean Melbourne.

It was only a week or two ago that I was detailing to myself and Aidan how inconvenient it would be to change cities mid-pregnancy; but further thought shows that it really wouldn't be so bad. A fairly simple matter of asking my doctor to transfer my medical records to a new doctor of my choice, with the added bonus of buying all the baby furniture in Melbourne instead of having to move it... where's the problem? Surely pre-natal classes (if I get around to joining one here anyway...) can be quit and joined and changed, if necessary? And moving without a baby has to be easier than moving with one? Surely it's better to go to the expense of hiring removalists now, while we still have some savings and two jobs, rather than later when all money will be paranoically set aside for Bean and I'll have left the workforce?

Does anyone have any thoughts, tips, advice, or experience, that they could share regarding babies and moving???

I can only give you tips, hints and advice on dogs, cats and horses, and moving. Sorry... no babies.

But one would think pre-Bean would be easier than post-Bean....

Hi Stace. Can't exactly speak from experience since I've not moved with a baby or even when pregnant. But, I do know from experience that just going out of the house with a baby is a major production with all the gear you have to bring. Plus of course you have to care for the baby which takes out time for organizing your stuff. And you're simply exhausted from lack of sleep after giving birth.

So I think it would be a lot easier to move pre-Bean.

Welllll...we moved when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant and I could help with nothing. But thankfully the house we moved into had been thoroughly cleaned by the previous owners, so we just moved our things in. We moved in mid-December and gave birth on Jan. 3. I had stuff in boxes until spring. *smile* But I didn't mind. You just do what you can do. Somehow we managed to have a Christmas tree that year and I remember that it was up until almost March! Egads! LOL But pre-baby would definitely be easier than post-baby.

Grass is greener. Look on the bright side. By being in Camberra you are missing our heat wave - it has been over 21 degrees for the last two weeks. Its getting to hot to handle. I'm sure whatever you two chose will be good.

Ponita - we don't have any dogs, cats, or horses :( But if I ever get any, I'll ask your advice on moving them :)

Menchie - hello!! How are you feeling? I think you're right - when going out to the shops with a baby is a big deal, moving can only be worse.

Jewel - I have a big strong husband to do all the moving work! hehe - also, most removalists have an option where you get THEM to do the packing and unpacking, which is awesome. :)

Andrew - Canberra is one giant heatwave... haha - although I must confess, the actual temperature hasn't gotten into the 40's yet... it's just constantly hot here :P

Yes. I did it with a two year old and a two month old. Babies don't weigh much and have a tendency to stay put where you put them (prior to learning to crawl, that is) It's all the STUFF that comes with them that complicates things - the clothes, the toys and the accessories but moving is moving with or without babies. Babies don't really care where they live so long as their mum and dad are there....
