24 weeks

Had an incident this morning. I was on the bus going to work as usual, when I suddenly felt hot, sweaty, and short of breath. It wasn't long before my vision started to blur, then disappear completely. I was nowhere near passing out; I didn't feel faint, I just couldn't see anything. Happily a colleague was on the same bus, and saw me looking weird; she helped me get up and walk to the office, by which time my vision had returned... temporarily. Within about ten minutes of getting to work, it happened again. So, my boss drove me to the hosiptal. After waiting a good two hours or so in Emergency (which is fine, I was hardly dying), the doctor poked and prodded me, then told me it was more or less normal: hormonal and blood pressure changes associated with pregnancy. Well, that's what he thinks based on one isolated incident. Essentially, little Elspeth is getting selfish, claiming all my resources and leaving me short.

So anyway, I'm feeling ok now, I'm at home and will not be going to work again until at least Wednesday. I am forbidden (by Doctor Aidan) to do anything strenuous or worry about anything, so after I've published this post and finished my lunch, I'll be having a quick shower then going back to bed.

Thanks again to Alice (the colleague on the bus), MaryLou (the boss who drove me to hospital and sat with me a while), Nathan and Stephen (the colleagues who worried and helped me at work this morning) and, as always, Aidan (the concerned and wonderful husband).

Oh, Stace! How scary! Did you get to an opthamlogist to have your eyes checked? I sure hope it is just little Elspeth being greedy....

How much hair has grown back? I bet it is cooler with a nekkid noggin.

Take care! ((hugs))

I've never heard of such a thing, you must have been frightened. Hope you're feeling better Stace.

So glad you're ok Stace. That must have been pretty scary. Rest well.

Hi guys, thanks. I was pretty scared, freaking out a bit, but ok now. Ponita, I didn't see an optometrist since I already see one fairly regularly and wear contact lenses :)

My hair is all prickly and funny! And my head gets cold :( haha

*whew* That was a close call. I'm so thankful to hear you are okay, Stace. I had blurry vision and dizziness some, but not nearly as badly as you did! Take care! ((HUGS))

Not an optometrist... an opthamologist (medical doctor specializing in eyes)... not to check how well you see but to see if there is something in your eyes that would cause that problem.

I'm sorry to hear you went through such a frightening experience, Stace. I hope this doc checked you for, and ruled out preeclampsia.

Jewel - count yourself lucky! hehe

Ponita - sorry, I misunderstood or misread. I probably should see an ophthalmologist if it happens again, but for now I'm happy with the hospital's diagnosis (and I'm seeing my regular GP on Saturday too).

Hilary - I'm going to ask my GP about preeclampsia when I see her on the weekend :)

Stace (((Huggs))) See, Elspeth is growing so fast now she needs to take resourece from you. Do you drink Sustagen? The hospital grade chocolate one is nice, with milk or with plain cold/iced water.

I don't drink Sustagen... maybe I should start.

Relieved to get to the end and find out you're OK! The scariest symptoms seem to be deigned "nothing" if they don't hang around.

Rosemary - It hasn't happened again, so one assumes it was nothing to begin with!

I couldn't believe it, because the second time was actually in the office, I had to fill out an incident report... and of course the form is designed for accidents and injuries around the workplace, so many questions were irrelevant to me!! haha
