I wouldn't have thought it possible, but our computer went screwy again recently. It's alive and kicking now, but once again we've lost everything. Photos, music, programs... so we've had a fun couple of days making it fully functional again. It's not as though I don't have plenty of time; my boss currently can't afford for me to work much, so I'm only working Thursday and Friday this week. I need a new job, as soon as my contract ends in a few weeks.

However, I have discovered a new way to waste time (I mean, a constructive and healthy use of time...)!! I may be the very last on the bandwagon, you probably all know about Geocaching?! It looks to me like a lot of fun, so I'm tossing up whether or not I'm going to stay interested long enough to justify buying a GPS unit. I did go for a fruitless wander today, in the general area of where a cache is supposed to be; but lacking a GPS unit or a particularly good map, I didn't find anything. However, it was a really nice walk (almost a hike, up a mountain), giving wonderful views over the city, somewhere close to home that I hadn't even thought of going to before. So even though I didn't find the cache, it was still a worthwhile trip. (Yes, this photo is our capital city, taken about 5 or 6 kilometres from the city centre.)

In other news... I'm bored. I need to find something to do for the next three days; Aidan will be working but I'll be home. I could, of course, just MUD, but that's probably not a constructive use of my time and is really lazy. Suggestions??

Hi Stace,
Geocaching sounds like heaps of fun. How much would a GPS cost? However if you two install it into your car I will have to seriouly think about disowning you (wrong word). Part of the fun of driving is getting lost.
I know what you can do... You can find a good laptop for me to buy... or you could write a song... or climb to the top of a mountain and start singing...
Have fun,
Andrew

Hey Stace :) How about catching up on some old movies, going for walks, get outta town and go for a drive, and take more pics like that great one there :)

Have no idea what geocaching is. Can you explain it more? What, picking GPS co-ordinates and just going there, wherever it leads?

I clicked on your MUD link, but nothing happened. What's MUD, or dare I ask?

Why not take a flight up to mid-Canada for the weekend?

Andrew - no GPS in the car, that's cheating! If we got one it would just be a hand-held unit. I know nothing about laptops, I can't write songs, but I can certainly climb mountains and sing so thanks for the tip :)

Cazzie - good ideas, I'll see what I can do :)

WW - You're pretty much right. You get given co-ordinates to something which is hidden, and you have to find it. But often it's hidden craftily, or there may be other puzzles involved in finding the object, so it's a little more complex than just going to a certain place.
MUD = Multi User Dimension/Dungeon. It's an online text-based game, very nerdy, lots of fun :) The one I play is based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld.

Sorry about the computer probs Stace. I've been there a time or three too.

I'm intrigued by geocaching as well, but what with fishing, walking with Benny and watching baseball games, I just don't have the time for a new hobby.

Oh, and drinking beer while listening to the birds in the backyard. See? I'm booked solid.

:)
