I don't know a song about frogs
There are songs about lizards,
koalas, and dogs
But no-one writes songs about frogs

I don't know why I like frogs. It's not an obtrusive obsession, it doesn't occupy a lot of my time or mindspace, but I just like frogs. Did you know there are 13 endangered and 2 critically endangered species of frog in Australia?

The Armoured Mistfrog was last seen in 1994 in Far North Queensland. Currently, nobody knows anything about it - how many are left (if any), the gender balance, breeding season, tadpoles... it's all a bit of a mystery.

The Mountain Mistfrog is in a similar situation, with just as little really known about it, but it hasn't been seen since 1990. Surveys conducted in 1991, 1992, and 1993 all failed to find any trace of this frog.

Somebody's got to care about frogs. Even if all I can do is blog it, that's better than forgetting entirely.

I'll care about the frogs, too. I've always been intrigued by them for some reason. I'm the one who pics up some random little frog figurine for .50 for no reason. I finally ended up with so many of the little things I decided to decorate my bathroom in frogs.

It is sad to hear how the species are dieing out like that.

You don't know any songs about frogs??? I know heaps! I will have to sing them to you when we are next in Melbourne.

Ga-Lumpf went the little green frog one day,
Ga-Lumpf whent the little green frog.
Ga-Lumpf went the little green frog one day,
And the frog went Glumpf Glumpf Glumpf.

But we all know frogs go "La de da de da"
"La de da de da"
"La de da de da"
We all know frogs go "La de da de da"
They don't go glumpf glumpf glumpf.

I like frogs too. It is very very sad them disappearing. I'm thinking of having one as my picture. They look a lot nicer than me.

Can't say I'm a big fan of frogs. I prefer soft and fluffy to wet and slimy but its always sad to hear of any creature dying out. There were a couple of dirty jokes in that last sentence but I will resist the

Frogs and snails,
And puppy-dogs' tails;
That's what little boys are made of

We love frogs too in this house. I know of a few schools about Melbourne who are working on projects to save the dying out species of frogs in their area.
Wonderful critters they are.
Did you used to collect the tadpoles from puddles on days like this? I did :)

Stace said...

Cazzie, I used to collect the taddies from a creek down the bush, then bring them up and put them in a pond near the house... then, of course, the croaking of the grown frogs later drove my parents insane!

Five green speckled frogs
Sat on a speckled log
Eating some most delicious bugs
One jumped in the pool
Where it was nice and cool
Now there are four green speckled frogs.

Four green speckled frogs...

Wow Stace, that is exactly like a story book my kids brought home from school last week.
A princess got some tadpoles, she put them in the pond near the castle, the taddys grew into frogs and croaked all night...the King was not happy, but the Princess was wrapt :)

Mr frog went out of his pond one day and found himself in the rain,
Said he, I'll get wet and I might catch a cold,
So he jumpped in the pond again.
Andrew again.

I'm really annoyed because I was about to post the song about mr frog jumping in the pond but andrew beat me to it -waah!! Just what is it with frogs -my sister send me a beaded magnet one from alice springs just his week.

Frog went a-courtin', and he did ride, Uh-huh,
Frog went a-courtin', and he did ride, Uh-huh,
Frog went a-courtin', and he did ride.
With a sword and a pistol by his side, Uh-huh.

I mean "sent" and "this". I need sleep.

Who'd have thought there were so many frog songs. Thanks guys!

Hi Lee,
Is that the same song as:
A frog went courting on a summers day. Ah Hum Ah Hum,
A frog went courting on a summers day he met Miss Mousy on the way
Ah Hum Ah Hum, Ah hum ah hum ah hum

Or is it a different song?

Lee, speaking of typos, one of my colleagues got an email today saying "please get back to him about his bottom". What it SHOULD have said was "please get back to him about the below email".

yeah, andrew -I guess it is -the one I posted is a bob dylan version :).I rememember my aunt used to sing the one you wrote-or a version of it- and it had the line "you ain't nothing but a horny toad, uh huh, uh huh, uh huh".I remember the tune very clearly.

stace -that's excellent.haha.

Stace, you're worth ribbiting about, that's all I can say.

Frogs have been a big part of my life. I dressed up as Kermit for a momentous Halloween party one year...

But more than that, I would catch them all the time as a kid and look at them in wonder, then let them go.

They're incredible animals, and here in NA we use them for biology class. A cruel fate, I say...

I have a frog badge - I got it two jobs ago for my work done in the enviro sector - they issued 4 gorf's a year - and for some reason I received one!

We having burrowing frogs here, and everyone thinks they are cane toads - so I need to tell them what they are...

Just refounded your blog Stace.
